Enroll in our Apprentice Program today and start your dream career! This is not like any other class out there… this is a mentoring opportunity for those who have the drive and desire to become professional photographers.
Only 10 apprenticeships are available. Applicants must have the following:
- DSLR Camera
- 15-30 hours each month availability
- Dependability and Pleasing Character
- Transportation
- Ability to make required investment
Every apprentice will be given individualized assignments that will work on proficiency and enhance their ability to complete projects from start to finish. The goal of the program is to produce photographers that are highly marketable, confident, knowledgeable and experienced. Apprentices will be given the following proficiency points:
- Working knowledge of their camera and lenses (Settings/Functions/Troubleshooting)
- Composition and Lighting
- Business Plan & Organization
- Marketing & Price Planning
- Portfolio Development
- Project Management
- Gallery Show
- Networking & Branding
- Completing Assignments as a second shooter
- Contracts and other legal documents
- And more…
Apprentices must invest at least 2 months in the program. Depending on the individualized apprentice plan, candidates may be able to stay in the program for additional months not to exceed 16 months. If additional time is required, candidates must inform VAPC of his or her intention and why they have not been able to complete the apprenticeship in that time frame. It is imperative that in order to have a successful apprenticeship, each participant keeps track of their assignments and follows through with bookings, appointments, and commitments.
Applicants will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. If the program is to capacity, you may request to be put on the waiting list.
The program covers unlimited access to VAPC classes and workshops, appointments, lab and material costs. Each month you will receive a plan of action and assignment details. There is a two-month minimum commitment required from all apprentices. Scholarships and Work Study Credit will be available to apprentices after the second month of the program. You have the option to stop and start after the initial two months however re-entry into the apprentice program is dependent upon space and availability. If you have been inactive for over 8 months, you will have to re-register and half of the initiation fee will be added to your monthly program fee.
